Our Story

Built by people who have been there

We started Internship Abroad because we went through it ourselves. The agencies were expensive, the information was scattered, and the support disappeared the moment you landed. So we built what we wished existed: a platform where everything is transparent, your profile is free, and companies can find you directly.

We built the South Africa platform specifically because SA students face challenges that European students don't. Visa applications that require embassy visits. ZAR budgets that make some destinations feel out of reach. A job market back home that rewards international experience more than almost anywhere. We wanted to solve all three.

We are a small team based between the Netherlands, Bali, and Sardinia. No corporate office. We work the way our students do: internationally, flexibly, and with genuine care for the outcome. That is why everything starts free.

Many SA degrees ask for Work-Integrated Learning. Ask your WIL coordinator which documents they need, usually a learning agreement and a supervisor report, and agree them with your host company before you fly.

Your profile is live in about two minutes. How soon a company reaches out depends on your field and destination, so we recommend starting at least 4-5 months before your desired start date to allow for visa processing - Schengen visas for SA passport holders can take 4-8 weeks from application to approval.

No prior work experience is required. Companies look for interns at all levels, from first-year students to final-year undergraduates. Your free profile helps showcase your skills, personality, and potential beyond a traditional CV.

Absolutely. You choose where you want to go and show it on your profile. Our destination guides show honestly which destinations are most feasible for your SA passport in terms of visa complexity, lead time, and cost in rands.

It can, but your faculty decides. Ask your Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) coordinator what they need, usually a learning agreement, a named workplace supervisor and a final supervisor report, and agree it with your host company in writing before you accept an offer.

Talk to the company first: most issues can be solved directly. Your profile stays live, so other companies can still find you if you need to look again.
