Funding options for SA students

There are legitimate ways to reduce the cost of your international internship. Here's what's available for South African students.

🇺🇪

Erasmus+ ICM

If your SA university has an Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility agreement with a European partner, you can apply for a stipend of approximately EUR 800/month (roughly R15,000/month). UCT, Wits, Stellenbosch, and UP have these partnerships. Check with your International Office.

🎓

University Bursaries

UCT, Wits, and Stellenbosch all have limited funds for international internship experiences. Each faculty handles this differently. Talk to your faculty's placement officer or the International Academic Programmes Office early - these funds are competitive.

📈

Private Foundations

The Oppenheimer Memorial Trust and Mandela Rhodes Foundation both support international experience components. The Allan Gray Orbis Foundation funds entrepreneurship-related international experiences. Apply early - timelines are long.

🏠

Employer Sponsorship

SA corporates including Deloitte, PwC, KPMG, and some major banks fund international rotations for top final-year students. If you are already in a graduate programme, ask specifically about international placement options.

👥

Working Holiday Visas

Canada's IEC Working Holiday programme has annual draws open to SA citizens (aged 18-35, up to 12 months). Australia's Work and Holiday Visa (subclass 462) may be available to SA citizens - check current eligibility with the Australian Department of Home Affairs. These routes let you earn while you intern.

Common Questions

Placement FAQ

It means you pay a small deposit to start the Full Service process, but the main fee is only charged once you have a confirmed placement. If we cannot place you after a genuine effort, you do not owe us the full fee. This protects you - we only earn when we deliver.

The cost of supporting a student in Dubai differs from Bangkok or New York. Local team costs, accommodation complexity, and visa support requirements vary. We give you a clear quote for your specific destination during your intake session. "From R14 900" is the starting point for the most accessible destinations.

Yes. Your Living Profile is specifically built for internship discovery - companies in our network search it directly. LinkedIn is general; your Living Profile shows internship-specific information (desired destinations, availability dates, portfolio, video intro). And at R149, it costs less than a dinner out.

Potentially. Erasmus+ ICM stipends, university bursaries, and private foundations like Oppenheimer Memorial Trust can cover costs. Working Holiday Visa routes (Australia, Canada) let you earn while you work. We provide all documentation needed for any funding application. Talk to us during your intake session about which options apply to you.
